Green Hell journey. Part 1

Good day, survivor. Today, we are starting a new series about one of the best survival simulators I’ve ever played – Green Hell. This game will transport you to the Amazon rainforest. When I was younger, watching Animal Planet or Discovery, I was always interested in traveling to such a beautiful but very dangerous place. Ten years later, I came across this game, and it took me away for dozens of hours. Every day, coming back home, I eagerly went to my computer to continue my journey in this wild but beautiful place. In this first part, I would like to share with you my experience and feelings about playing this game during the last three years.

The first impression I got was, "Where in the damn world am I?" Honestly, my spawn point was in the middle of the jungle, quite far away from water sources. What was very interesting is the ambient sound. It was truly alive. Monkeys screaming, grass and bushes making natural noises – everything was moving and breathing. And in the middle of nowhere, there was I. I looked in my backpack, found some stuff like food and some meds, though I'm not very sure right now. I guess it was almost empty. So, the whole forest stood against me, and I had to survive as much as I could.

I took several careful steps forward, looking around every second, listening, and staring at every new tree, bush, or movement between green bushes. Inside, I felt my heart shaking, and that feeling was so nice. The picture and sound worked perfectly together. A few sticks, two stone pieces, and my character made a note that I could make a primitive stone axe – my first self-made tool. Yeah, I had a chance to survive. I took about 100 steps forward and found a dry riverbed. My character already wanted to drink. You can monitor your status on smartwatches: fat, carbs, proteins, and water. The water level was less than 50%. I had to find water!

Suddenly, an animal jumped out of the bushes. With a loud squeal, it ran past me and went up the riverbed. Damn, that was scary. Not the creature itself, but the loud sounds it made. As I learned in the future, that was a capybara – a very useful and peaceful animal in your survival. I tried to catch up with the animal. This desire ended my journey for the first time. As you may know, the Amazon rainforest is a very dangerous place. It's full of poisonous snakes, giant spiders, deadly scorpions, red fire ants, mad bees, and aggressive wild cats. If you think you can hide in water, you are damn wrong. Small streams where you can find water and small fishes contain deadly stingrays. One bite, and you are poisoned and willing to die. Piranhas are waiting for you in big rivers and lakes. And the scariest thing that makes that pleasant sound causes you to press ALT+F4 – the giant river crocodile. You may have full HP, the best armor, do whatever you want, but don't let this beast put its jaws on you. One shot and save loading. Or permanent death if you choose the Green Hell difficulty level.

My first death came suddenly and mercilessly. I just managed to hear some kind of hissing, and damn, a snake bit me. I killed her, but sadly, it didn’t prevent my slow death. I survived for 7 minutes…

Nevertheless, I tried again and again. With every attempt, I investigated more information about the jungle – how to find clean water, what food I can eat without fire, how to heal myself, and make my sanity steady and clear. I built my first shelter and made my first campfire. These first 10-20 hours were the best gaming experience I have ever had.

In the following parts of my journey, I will share with you all I learned in this game. I will teach you how to survive, build a house, and turn survival into a tropical vacation.
