World of Tanks: Skorpion G commander's review

Hello comrades,

In this section dedicated to premium tanks, we will discuss and draw decisive conclusions about each premium machine you may purchase or acquire through a marathon or another event. I will share my opinion and offer some advice about each tank we discuss. So let's get started with my first premium tank - Skorpion G.

Basic Characteristics

Pluses:

As you may understand, this tank destroyer should be played from the backline. That doesn't mean that you should sit the whole match in one bush. The Skorpion has pretty good mobility, which means you can change your positioning during the battle pretty fast. The Skorpion will bring destruction on the battlefield using its perfect 12.8 cm gun. Since the caliber is pretty big, you may have bigger chances not to see ricochets off opponent's armor. One shell damage is averaged at 490 points. You will get 246 mm of armor penetration on basic shells and 311 mm on premium ones. Generally, basic shells are enough for almost every 8-10 level tank, but at some point, you will be better off having 5-10 premium shells just in case. Basic shell traveling speed is not too high, under 1000 m/s, so you'd better try to learn how to shoot in advance or wait until the opponent stands still. Accuracy is also a strong point of this tank - 0.3 m, which could be highly increased to around 0.25 or even higher.

Minuses:

This tank is based on the Panther, so it is quite big and has a low level of camouflage. So don't forget that you should shoot through the bushes (bushes will save you only if they are not transparent). Elevation angles are also not a strong point of this machine: -6 degrees. And due to the specific tower construction, you could raise it up too high. The tower traveling speed is also slow, but I guess it is made for balance. What could I say about armor or HP: this tank has no armor. Artillery and high explosive shells are your most dangerous enemies. HP pool is 1150, so you have high chances of instant death after being detected.

Recommended Equipment

Necessary:

  • Gun Rammer: to increase reloading rate

Optional:

  • Improved Rotation Mechanism: increases turret traverse speed and adds mobility.
  • Improved Aiming: boosts your accuracy significantly.
  • Turbocharger: if you feel you're going to travel around the map often.
  • Coated Optics: in situations when your light tank is dead and medium tanks refuse to scout, you can detect opponents yourself.
  • Low Noise Exhaust System: could increase your survivability by increasing camouflage rating. For active play.

Conclusion and Ranking

The Skorpion is a good damage dealer with decent mobility. Its main strength lies in its gun, making it akin to a glass cannon with poor camouflage and elevation angles. It can earn you a lot of credits after several successful shots.

  • Firepower: 7/10
  • Survivability: 3/10
  • Difficulty: 5/10
  • Fun to Play: 8/10
  • Overall Rating: 7
  • Suitable for average and high-skill players.
