The new unexpected hit on Steam is Lethal Company, a cooperative horror game about corporate slaves.
Steam has witnessed another indie wonder: a solo developer has released their long-awaited project and achieved significant success. Now, their creation is seriously competing with other giants on the Valve platform.

We're talking about Lethal Company, a cooperative horror game where you explore abandoned moons. Your character works for the Company and is tasked with collecting various junk to meet the Company's quota. If you have the money, you can spend it on either more challenging expeditions with higher rewards or on various cosmetic items for yourself and your ship. If you run out of money and fail to meet the quota, you'll find out what the Company does with "lazy" employees.

Cooperative gameplay involves constant communication; for example, one player can stay on the ship and oversee operations using instruments, providing useful information from the radar. Those who venture "into the field" need to scan creatures and use various tools, from shovels to stunning grenades.

Lethal Company launched in early access on October 24th. What followed was a growing wave of success: online player numbers averaged around 500 at release, reached 2,500 within a week, and over the weekend, the peak exceeded 115,000 players. For a brief period, Lethal Company surpassed Team Fortress 2, Rust, and War Thunder in peak concurrent players.

Players are highly enthusiastic about Lethal Company, with a current 97% positive review rating. Reviews describe the game as a "wage slave simulator," sharing stories like, "I'm walking down the corridor, see someone step on a mine, they turn around, say 'Run,' and explode. 10/10, got PTSD."

The developer of Lethal Company goes by the name Zeekerss. He has worked on small horror projects and tried his hand as a content creator in Roblox. The development of Lethal Company was documented through his Patreon page. The game underwent numerous iterations; initially, it was set only in enclosed spaces, and a lift was used instead of a spaceship.

According to some analysts, Lethal Company earned approximately $5.7 million in its first month, and its total circulation is likely to be several million copies. Despite its relatively low price, the game does not include any additional in-game purchases.

It seems that the success of Lethal Company is tied to the abundance of humorous situations it generates. Clips from the game are going viral on social media, contributing to its popularity.
