Epic Games offered $147 million to Google just to have Fortnite on Google Play.

Google offered the game developer Epic $147 million to have the game Fortnite appear in the Google Play app store, according to court documents. The offer was prepared, formalized, and sent for consideration to Epic, but the studio's bosses declined.

Epic's rejection caused almost panic within Google, as they seriously feared the "contagious" nature of the decision, as reported by The Verge. They were concerned that following Epic, other major gaming companies (Blizzard, Valve, Sony, Nintendo) would also refuse to use the Google Play platform and start distributing games independently.

This would lead to significant economic losses: Epic's refusal to place Fortnite, as stated in the court documents, could result in a loss of revenue in the range of $130-250 million, and the departure of other major players could mean a loss of $3.6 billion.

In response, Epic mentioned that they had such concerns in the past.

The contents of the documents were disclosed as part of an antitrust investigation. Epic believes that Google abuses its position in the market by taking a 30% cut of incoming payments.
