The same PS5 but more compact - bloggers disassembled the PS5 Slim piece by piece.

Some bloggers have already received the updated revision of the PlayStation 5, which has been unofficially dubbed the Slim version of the console. Users dismantled the "slimmer" device on camera to find out how Sony engineers managed to shrink it. As it turns out, the internal components of the PlayStation 5 have hardly changed.

First, Dave Lee, the owner of the Dave2D channel, noted that the PS5 Slim is noticeably lighter than the original PlayStation 5, weighing 3.2 kilograms for the new PS5 with a disc drive, compared to 3.9 kilograms for the old one. Meanwhile, the digital version has shed 800 grams.

Now, the console has four external panels instead of two: two matte ones at the bottom and two glossy ones on top. To access the internals, the blogger removed the two side plates. The stylized vents that were present in previous versions of the PS5 are absent in the compact variants. Additionally, the front panel of the PS5 Slim no longer has a USB-A port; instead, it has another USB-C port.

Removing the removable disc drive turned out to be quite simple - just press a button and pull it upwards. The drive's connection to the console is provided through a single connector.

Lee believes that the same chip as the previous version of the PS5 is inside the PS5 Slim because the power consumption of the new system was slightly higher than that of the standard PlayStation 5. For example, in Death Stranding, the compact PS5 used 208 watts, while the classic version used 204 watts. After eight hours of testing, the reduced-size PS5 heated up more than the original, reaching temperatures of 62-64 degrees Celsius compared to 60-63 degrees Celsius.

Linus Sebastian, in his video, measured the chip with calipers and came to the same conclusion - Sony retained the 6-nanometer chip in the PS5 Slim.

It is worth noting that the updated PlayStation 5 was announced on October 10, with the official sales starting in the United States and Japan on November 10.
